About Orzo Pasta
Also known as risoni or soup pasta, Orzo is a pasta shaped like a long grain, it can be served alone as part of a salad or added into typical Greek dishes like giouvetsi or it can be baked into a casserole.
Meaning “Barley” in Italian due to its resemblance to the grain in its unprocessed form, Orzo is a pasta which is used in a variety of ways. Like most pastas and rice, you can serve Orzo hot or cold and it is perfect to add on a summery salad or baked into a casserole.
Being very similar in shape, size and texture to rice, this pasta is often made out of semolina and other types of durum wheat. The Orzo packs more fibre and protein than white rice but is 50% more calorific.
